Reading Bear

Reading Bear, a project of WatchKnowLearn.org, is the first free program online to teach beginning readers (4-7 years old) vocabulary and concepts while systematically introducing all the main phonetic patterns of written English, all using innovative rich media. The project’s Editor-in-Chief is Larry Sanger, who conceived the project, designed the software, and did most of the work assembling the content so far. Sanger is an American philosopher best known as co-founder of Wikipedia.

How does it work? In each presentation—playable either as a video or as an interactive slide show—one or a few related “phonics rules.” are introduced. Presentations are available in seven different versions. In the fullest version, we sound out a word slowly and quickly, then blend it slowly, and finally (after an optional prompt) blend it quickly. As sounds are pronounced, the corresponding letters are highlighted. Then we display a picture illustrating the word, show a sentence (with the individual sounds again highlighted, karaoke style), and finally show a video illustrating the sentence.

Reading Bear is a non-profit project. It is free and ad-free.

El pasado 26 de octubre fueron presentadas oficialmente las 130 secuencias didácticas AICLE (en inglés, francés y alemán) para centros bilingües de Educación Primaria y Educación Secundaria dependientes de la Junta de Andalucía.

Cada secuencia contiene una ficha de identificación del material AICLE, una tabla de programación, el contenido de la secuencia, material complementario y solucionarios. Se puede acceder al material por idioma, materia o etapa educativa.

Es una iniciativa que puede servirnos de referente. Con un esfuerzo de producción y recogida sistemática de trabajo, abre muchísimas posibilidades y aporta una enorme riqueza.

Fin de la fase metodológica de PALE

Esta semana hemos completado la parte de metodología del PALE con la exposición de los distintos materiales CLIL preparados por el grupo y dirigidos a las etapas de infantil, primaria y secundaria. Las exposiciones en inglés, con más o menos nervios, revelan un trabajo muy interesante y mucho esfuerzo por parte de todos y todas. Sería muy valioso poder recoger todas estas experiencias que se están generando desde los distintos CEFIRE.

Recordad que la reunión con la empresa Kings College, responsable de la fase de inmersión, tendrá lugar en Alicante el día 20 de junio a las 16 h en el IES Antonio Cavanilles.

A partir del lunes 6 comenzará el proceso de inscripción para las salidas al extranjero de PALE del presente curso lectivo. Para evitar problemas de saturación, la inscripción se realizará escalonada: el día 6 sólo podrán inscribirse infantil y primaria y a partir del día 7 de junio el resto de niveles educativos también.

No repetiré el contenido la entrada de nuestro blog Linguelda sobre la publicación de finalistas del V Premio Espiral Edublogs o sobre el valor de la iniciativa.

Para seguir con el tema de los podcast, mencionado en la última entrada, os presento hoy IVOZI. Es un recurso especialmente útil para aprender inglés escuchando, a través de podcast descargables con transcripción y para la mejora de vocabulario. Está orientado a estudiantes de de habla castellana, en sus explicaciones.

IVOZI es una empresa integrada por profesores, lingüistas y escritores que ofrece diversos servicios y materiales relacionados con la enseñanza y aprendizaje de inglés, algunos de pago y bastantes otros gratuitos.

La navegación por la página es muy sencilla y se apoya por ejemplo en un etiquetado de entradas bastante cómodo de seguir. Es bastante recomendable para quienes tengáis limitaciones de tiempo para estudiar o queráis aprovechar momentos muy determinados para ello.

Encuentro con centros plurilingües en el CEFIRE de Benidorm

Hemos participado en un encuentro de centros plurilingües invitados por la inspectora Mª Ángeles García. Básicamente, hemos dado a conocer recursos de tipo general del CEFIRE como la biblioteca virtual (http://www.lavirtu.com), el banco de imágenes o el DVD Fotobook y algunos otros más especializados en el aprendizaje y enseñanza de inglés, como este blog.

Los centros convocados eran:

CEIP Bautista Lledó (Benidorm), CEIP Costa Blanca (Alicante), CEIP Gloria Fuertes (Alzira), CEIP nº 5 (Catarroja), CEIP José Soriano Ramos (Vila-real) y CEIP Sanchís Yago (Castellón)

En el programa figuraban también como ponentes Mª José Llorca y Marc Ramis del CEFIRE de Benidorm, Roberto García del Servicio de Lenguas de la D.G. Ordenación y Mónica García de la editorial Oxford University Press.

Esperamos que esta reunión haya resultado provechosa a centros que han asumido una gran responsabilidad en la enseñanza en inglés desde los primeros años.

Conversation Questions for the ESL/EFL Classroom
