The Phrase Finder

A list of thousands of English idioms, phrases and proverbs with their meaning and origin explained. Phrases listed under category headings, origins...

This site was founded in 1997 by Gary Martin, who writes the Meanings and Origins section of the site and the Phrase A Week posts. It grew out of post-graduate research into computational linguistics that was developed in 1985 in a Sheffield Hallam University research project into the use of artificial intelligence techniques to aid the teaching of writing.

Tumble Book Library

La Biblioteca del CEFIRE de Elx nos informa de que, gracias a una inversión de la Subdirección General de Coordinación Bibliotecaria del Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte, las Bibliotecas Públicas del Estado ofrecen desde sus páginas Web, acceso gratuito a una colección de libros electrónicos parlantes, dirigidos especialmente al público infantil y juvenil y que al mismo tiempo suponen un valiosísimo recurso para la práctica de idiomas. 

Se trata de un recurso anglosajón, muy popular en centros educativos y bibliotecas públicas de Estados Unidos y Canadá La biblioteca virtual Tumblebook, destinada fundamentalmente al público infantil y juvenil, incluye: libros de cuentos, libros juveniles, cuentos en inglés, en francés, español y diversos idiomas, además de juegos y puzzles. 

Los textos de TumbleBooks son un complemento magnífico al programa de lectura que puede utilizarse de forma independiente o en grupo. Las opciones de búsqueda permiten localizar los libros por título, autor, tema, idioma (ingles, español, francés), géneros, duración, dificultad y nivel de lectura.

Scoilnet.ie


Scoilnet is the Department of Education and Skills (DES) official portal for Irish education Scoilnet.ie contains a database of over 15,000+ online resources including websites, quizzes, lesson plans, notes, video/audio, games and other multimedia. You can access their resources from the blue search box at the top of every page.

Scoilnet.ie has been developed as a support for teachers at both primary and post-primary levels.

Saint Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day or Saint Valentine’s Day is a holiday celebrated on February 14 by many people throughout the world. In the English-speaking countries, it is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other by sending Valentine’s cards, presenting flowers, or offering confectionery. ChemCollective

The ChemCollective is a collection of virtual labs, scenario-based learning activities, tutorials, and concept tests. Teachers can use our content for pre-labs, for alternatives to textbook homework, and for in-class activities for individuals or teams. Students can review and learn chemistry concepts using our virtual labs, simulations, and tutorials. 

The ChemCollective is organized by a group of faculty and staff at Carnegie Mellon who are interested in using, assessing, and creating engaging online activities for chemistry education.
