A History of #Ireland in 10 Words

The educational resources available on this site are based on the book A History of Ireland in 100 Words (https://www.ria.ie/history-ireland-100-words), which was written by Sharon Arbuthnot, Máire Ní Mhaonaigh and Gregory Toner, illustrated by Joe McLaren, and published by the Royal Irish Academy in 2019.

These resources are divided into ten units, each headed by an Irish word which acts as a springboard into glimpses of life in Ireland in previous centuries which are often absent from history books.

The topics of the ten units are:

  1. ceol ‘music’
  2. ráth ‘a ringfort’
  3. leabhar ‘a book’
  4. dalta ‘a pupil’
  5. réalta ‘a star’
  6. bróg ‘a shoe’
  7. mac tíre ‘a wolf’

Proyecto EDIA. “What a digital world!”

"What a digital world!" is a project that publishes content for project-based learning across the English curriculum in the second year of ESO.

The common thread of the ten OER (Open Educational Resources) based on PBL will be new technologies and audiovisual media. Internet, applications and games for smartphones or other electronic devices, television or press will be some of the main topics of the contents.

This website started in 1994 at the University of Illinois Urbanan-Champaign with the purpose of sharing English learning materials online. It contains a multitude of English teaching and learning materials, including conversations covering various topics, short essays with numerous vocabulary and grammar exercises designed for learners at different levels, and a series of mobile apps.

Independence Day is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the Declaration of Independence, which was ratified by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. The Fourth of July has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941.
