World Poetry Day is on 21 March, and was declared by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1999. World Poetry Day is now celebrated in hundreds of countries around the world. The purpose of the day is to promote the reading, writing, publishing and teaching of poetry throughout the world and, to "give fresh recognition and impetus to national, regional and international poetry movements".

e-Portfolios for starters

The term "e-Portfolio" refers to an electronically stored collection (or archive) of a student’s experiences, achievements and artefacts, together with their reflections on learning.

ePortfolios can be personalised to demonstrate their skills and experiences to teachers, peers and employers. They are a valuable resource when writing job applications and preparing for interviews.

Students who have used ePortfolios report having a greater awareness of their skills, greater confidence in their abilities, and feeling more independent as a learner.

Film English

Film English is an amazing site which promotes the innovative and creative use of video and film in language learning. It provides lots of inspiring lesson plans in order to promote cineliteracy, the ability to analyse moving images, a 21st century skill which our students need to learn. Film English also promotes critical thinking in the language classroom, and  encourage learners to reflect on values while learning a language.

This site has won various awards, including: Best Individual Blog and Runner-up in The Best Use of Video in the 2011 Edublog Awards; the 2011 TEFL.net  Site of the Year; and British Council Teaching English Featured Blog of the Month. (Source http://film-english.com/about-2/)

International Women’s Day

In 1975, during International Women's Year, the United Nations began celebrating 8 March as International Women's Day. Two years later, in December 1977, the General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming a United Nations Day for Women's Rights and International Peace to be observed on any day of the year by Member States, in accordance with their historical and national traditions.

This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is: “A promise is a promise: Time for action to end violence against women”

From China to Costa Rica, from Mali to Malaysia acclaimed singers and musicians, women and men, have come together to spread a message of unity and solidarity: We are "One Woman". (Source UN Women)
