#EarthDay

In 1969 at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco a day to honor the Earth and the concept of peace was proposed. First held in 1970, Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22. It is considered the birth of the modern environmental movement. Since then many people participate worldwide on Earth Day in various events to demonstrate support for environmental protection.

Martha`s True Stories

Martha’s True Stories is based on Martha Speaks, an animated series and interactive website on PBS KIDS. It introduces kids ages 4-7 to the world of nonfiction through interactive books where they can read along with Martha as they learn vocabulary skills.Martha's True Stories are divided into four STEM categories: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (environment, technology, inventions and measuring).

Within each category, you'll find two nonfiction stories about the topic, plus another kind of nonfiction "text" (instructions, recipe, a made-up website, and so on). You can review the words using the Word Bones interactive glossary. There is also a short vocabulary quiz for each story or text, that will help reinforce the new vocabulary and concepts.

A parents guide and a teachers guide are also available.

Stories are important in education and in language learning. 

Story Starters is a fun interactive tool aimed at engaging children and inspiring them to write by serving up hundreds of writing prompts in creative combinations. Three main themes (Adventure, Fantasy, or Sci-Fi) are available.

The purpose of PlayPhrase.me service is to learn English using TV series.

It allows you to search for specific phrases in a database of video clips from popular films and TV shows, like an online corpus of authentic spoken English.

The English Consistent Confusion Corpus

The English Consistent Confusion Corpus is a large-scale collection of noise induced British English speech misperceptions. These misperceptions have been elicited by asking listeners to transcribe English words mixed with complex noise backgrounds.

The corpus has been distilled from over 300,000 listener responses and includes responses to over 9,000 individual noisy speech tokens. Of these, more than 3,000 passed the condition of minimal consistency where at least 6 of the listeners reported the same incorrect response.

BBC Learning English, as part of the BBC World Service, has been teaching English since 1943, offering free audio, video and text materials to learners around the world.

One of the resources provided by BBC Learning English is 6 Minute English, a free tool for learners interested in improving their English listening skills. Audios and texts can be downloaded.

Short Stories

Short story section at East of the web. You can browse the library by genre (children's, crime, fiction, horror, humor, nonfiction, romance, sci-fi) or search it for a title, author or keyword. 

Clicking on an author's name lists all their stories along with further information and links. Stories can be read online, printed or downloaded for reading offline or on handheld devices.

Double clicking on any word in a story will bring up a dictionary definition along with an audio pronunciation of the word.

USA Learns, a free website for adults to learn English online. Here you can practice English speaking, reading, writing, listening, grammar, vocabulary and more. The website was originally launched in 2008. Since then, more than 7 million adults from around the world have visited it.

Their beginning and intermediate English courses include hundreds of educational videos that will teach you American English. USA Learns also has thousands of English learning activities and quizzes that let you know immediately if you answer correctly.

Storynory

Storynory is a website with a collection of stories (from original stories or myths to classic fairy tales) sorted into different categories. It is an excellent podcast for listeners of all ages, very useful in English classes and recommended to parents and students for outside reading, especially, for contexts with limited resources.

The audio stories are free and regularly updated. All their stories come with and HTML audio player. Their feed is also a free service.

EcoKids

Every January 26th we celebrate the World Environmental Education Day. This has its origin date from 1972 with the Declaration of the United Nations Conference on Human Environment held in Stockholm in 1972.

Started in 1994, EcoKids offers free learning activities and resources for Canadian teachers, students, parents and communities to engage in environmental action. EcoKids is designed to inspire children to become life-long environmental stewards through nature connection and play. (Source EcoKids)

Extracto de la Resolución de 9 de diciembre de 2016, de la Secretaría de Estado de Educación, Formación Profesional y Universidades, por la que se convocan 1.005 ayudas para participar en cursos de inmersión en lengua inglesa organizados por la Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo, destinadas a titulados en Máster en Profesorado de Enseñanza Secundaria Obligatoria y Bachillerato, Formación Profesional y Enseñanzas de Idiomas y a Maestros.

Podrán solicitar estas ayudas: 
 a) quienes hayan finalizado la diplomatura o grado de Maestro en cualquiera de las especialidades en alguno de los siguientes cursos académicos: 2015-2016, 2014-2015 o 2013-2014, con una nota media del expediente académico de, al menos, 8,00 puntos. 
 b) quienes hayan finalizado los estudios de Máster en Profesorado de Enseñanza Secundaria Obligatoria y Bachillerato, Formación Profesional y Enseñanzas de Idiomas, con una nota media en el master de, al menos, 8,00 puntos en alguno de los siguientes cursos académicos: 2015-2016, 2014-2015 o 2013-2014.

Algunos medios de comunicación se han hecho eco durante la semana de la cuarta edición del estudio Cambridge Monitor orientado al conocimiento del contexto sociopolítico europeo a través de más de 3.000 encuestas en seis países. 

Una de las cuestiones más reflejadas tiene que ver con la competencia en lengua inglesa y su percepción. También la relación de esta competencia con muy diferentes criterios geográficos, socioeconómicos e incluso de naturaleza ideológica.

Quick Rubric

According to Wikipedia, in education terminology, rubric means "a scoring guide used to evaluate the quality of students' constructed responses". They usually contain evaluative criteria, quality definitions for those criteria at particular levels of achievement, and a scoring strategy. 

Often presented in table format, they can be used by teachers when marking, and by students when planning their work.
