Up.

Film & ESL

The Academy Awards, or Oscars, is an annual awards ceremony hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to recognize excellence in cinematic achievements in filmaking from the previous year. The first Academy Awards were distributed in 1929. The last one (the 88th ceremony) was held recently, on February 28.

For those who think that film is not just a form of entertainment but a powerful learning tool in the educational process, a tool with many possibilities, some links to a number of sites containing a variety of views, information and resources on cinema and English teaching and learning:

Film English

Film English is an amazing site which promotes the innovative and creative use of video and film in language learning. It provides lots of inspiring lesson plans in order to promote cineliteracy, the ability to analyse moving images, a 21st century skill which our students need to learn. Film English also promotes critical thinking in the language classroom, and  encourage learners to reflect on values while learning a language.

This site has won various awards, including: Best Individual Blog and Runner-up in The Best Use of Video in the 2011 Edublog Awards; the 2011 TEFL.net  Site of the Year; and British Council Teaching English Featured Blog of the Month. (Source http://film-english.com/about-2/)
