Musicmap is an interactive online encyclopedia designed to explore the history and evolution of popular music genres. Developed by Kwinten Crauwels, it visually organizes over 200 music genres from 1870 to the present, offering a detailed genealogy of how these styles emerged and influenced one another.

The platform features an interactive map that allows users to click on genres, view their origins, and discover related styles. Each genre includes embedded playlists to sample iconic tracks, making it an engaging educational tool for music enthusiasts and learners. Musicmap provides a glossary, a theoretical framework, and thorough explanations to enrich users' understanding of music history.

Real-time encyclopedias

Real-time encyclopedias can be very useful for students in order to develop research skills. I would like to show two examples:

Mashpedia http://mashpedia.com/ is a dynamic encyclopedia, that pulls content from different online services in real-time, offering a complete and fresh outlook about (almost) any topic.
Every time you query Mashpedia, it loads information and digital contents from many online sources and then organize them in an easy-to-use interface. At Mashpedia you can find fresh data and digital media from newspapers, magazines, blogs, books, Wikipedia, Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Social Answers and more online resources. (Source http://mashpedia.com/about.php)

Zomobo http://zomobo.com/ is a new site that bills itself as a real-time encyclopedia. Zomobo, pulls the latest information available about specific topics that you're interested in. When you look up a topic in Zomobo you will get information pulled from blogs, social networks, Flickr, YouTube, newspapers, news sites, and Wikipedia.
