Tate Kids: discovering art through play and creativity

Tate Kids is the educational section of the Tate website created especially for children, offering an engaging way to discover art, artists and creative techniques. Through games, videos, quizzes, activities and accessible information about artworks and artists, it encourages children to explore art in an active and playful way. The wider Tate learning programme also places strong emphasis on creativity, curiosity, participation and learning through making and storytelling.

From an educational perspective, the resource can be used to introduce artists and artistic movements, explore individual artworks, develop visual literacy or provide inspiration for practical art activities. It can also be particularly useful in English lessons, as students can use the materials to learn vocabulary, describe artworks, express opinions and carry out short research tasks in English.

The Presidential Ham is a satirical website that humorously critiques American political figures and events. The site uses the concept of "The Presidential Ham" as a fictional, slightly absurd award to comment on U.S. politics with wit and humor. 

By embracing the quirky idea of a "presidential ham," the site playfully examines the actions, statements, and controversies of the presidents of the United States.

Given the current U.S. elections, this resource could be useful in English class to work on physical and character descriptions.

Esta semana mi buceo en el proceloso océano de Twitter me ha llevado a una página que me ha llamado la atención por su estructura y planteamiento. MirArtIT nos aporta el trabajo de Borja González, profesor del Colegio Mirasur de Madrid. 

A través de este proyecto en forma de un conjunto de recursos educativos de arte en inglés para Educación Primaria podemos recorrer la historia del arte por medio de vídeos desde la prehistoria hasta la actualidad, de forma ordenada y accesible. 

Los contenidos también tocan el diseño desde el punto de vista publicitario, que os pueden resultar útiles incluso para otras etapas educativas.

Igual de interesante es la sección de Artists (artistas) con referencias de interés para el panorama actual del arte y la ilustración en muy diversas  facetas.

KinderArt® was created in 1997 by Jantje and Andrea Mulder-Slater. Since then it has became one of the largest collection of free art lessons on the Internet. 

It offers art lesson plans and printable activity pages, educational links and articles for art teachers, students and families. 

Lessons can be searched by age or grade or by medium/discipline/theme. Another section, Art 101, offers information on color mixing, art supplies, art room setup, glossary of terms (interesting for CLIL), 15 minute fillers and more.

Getty Publications Virtual Library

Interested in Art and English? This resource can be good news for you and for your students.

In 2014, Getty Publications launched its Virtual Library with more than 250 titles spanning its forty-year publishing history. Titles are searchable by title, author, and keyword and include full descriptions, tables of contents, links to read online, to purchase the print book, to find in a library, or to download the complete PDF for free for personal use. 

Only those titles that could be offered in their entirety were included in the initial launch of the Virtual Library. More will be added as they can be made available.
