PhET Interactive Simulations

PhET Interactive Simulations is a free educational website that offers interactive simulations to help students learn science and mathematics in a simple and visual way. It was created as a non-profit project at the University of Colorado Boulder with the goal of improving how subjects like physics, chemistry, biology, and math are taught.

The main idea of PhET is that students learn better by exploring and experimenting instead of only reading or listening. On the website, users can interact with virtual simulations that behave like real scientific systems. For example, they can build electric circuits, explore how forces work, or see how molecules move. These simulations are designed to be fun, visual, and easy to use, often with tools like sliders, buttons, and drag-and-drop actions.

One important feature of PhET is that it helps make abstract or invisible concepts easier to understand. Things that are normally hard to see—like atoms, energy, or electric fields—are shown through animations and graphics, allowing students to see how they work in real time. The simulations also give immediate feedback, so learners can observe cause-and-effect relationships as they change variables.

Another key aspect is that all the simulations are research-based and tested in real classrooms to make sure they are effective for learning. They are also free, open-source, and available online or for download, which makes them accessible to teachers and students all over the world

Tackling Plastic Pollution

Scientific report published by the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas as part of its Science4Policy collection. This series of reports aims to translate scientific knowledge into clear information that can help governments, institutions, and society make better decisions about important global challenges.

The report focuses on the growing problem of plastic pollution and explains how plastics affect the environment, ecosystems, and human health. It describes how the massive production of plastics and the spread of microplastics and chemical additives have become a major environmental concern worldwide. The document summarizes current scientific knowledge about the issue and highlights the research being carried out by scientists to better understand and address it.

Women in the History of Science

Women in the History of Science explores how women around the world have helped create scientific knowledge throughout history. The book brings together original sources such as texts, images, and objects, each explained with clear background information, discussion questions, and suggestions for further reading to help you learn more.

Organised by time period (from 1200 BCE to today) and across 12 broad themes, the book covers science, technology, mathematics, medicine, and culture. It is designed to support both students and teachers in discovering the many ways women have contributed to these fields.

Women are often left out of traditional science history, but this book puts their voices and experiences at the centre. It also encourages readers to rethink what science is, where it happens, and who gets to be called a scientist. By doing so, it helps make learning more inclusive and shows that science has always been shaped by people from many different backgrounds.

ESA Education

The European Space Agency's Education portal,  serves as a comprehensive hub for space-themed educational resources and opportunities across Europe. It aims to inspire and equip students, teachers, and university-level learners with tools to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through the lens of space exploration.

ESA offers a wide array of curriculum-aligned materials for both primary and secondary education levels:

Primary Level (Ages 6–12): Resources cover topics in science, mathematics, technology, engineering, and arts, each comprising a teacher guide and student worksheets with practical activities.

Secondary Level (Ages 14–18): Materials span subjects such as physics, chemistry, astronomy, mathematics, and biology.

These resources are designed to make STEM subjects more engaging by integrating real-world space missions and phenomena into classroom learning.

ESA organizes workshops and training sessions for educators, focusing on current ESA missions and research activities. Themes include Technology, Robotics, Earth Observation, and Space Exploration. These workshops are tailored for both primary and secondary school teachers. It also supports various hands-on projects that allow students to engage directly with space science.

Women in Research

The year 2025 marks two important anniversaries: 10 years of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGS) and 30 years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, both focused on gender equality and women's empowerment.

Even though gender equality in science is essential for a better future, women and girls still face many obstacles and biases when pursuing scientific careers.

To close this gap, we need to break stereotypes, highlight inspiring role models, support women's progress with special programs, and create inclusive spaces through policies that promote diversity and fairness.

The "Women in Research" series by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) showcases inspiring stories of women across various fields of research and innovation. These narratives highlight their contributions, challenges, and achievements, aiming to promote diversity and encourage more women to pursue careers in science and research. The series includes interviews and features on platforms like YouTube, where viewers can learn about the journeys of these remarkable women.

Learning Situations for English in 5th Grade Primary (Science-CLIL)

The "Science (CLIL)" series of the EDIA Project offers open educational resources that constitute Learning Situations for the "Science" area for 5th Grade Primary Education. All resources have a series of common points in terms of methodology:

Project Based Learning: All the resources presented are projects in which the contents are acquired through research and creation. They end with a final product.

Learning Diary - Metacognition: Each resource includes, as a proposal, the creation of a learning diary with a series of questions that invite students to reflect as they progress through each project. Different resources for the metacognitive development of the students are also included, such as thinking routines and the metacognition ladder.

Development of the students' digital competence: The products that are proposed in the different projects can be carried out with different digital tools that will help the students to develop their digital competence progressively and adapted to their age.

Shared and formative assessment: Each resource is accompanied by multiple rubrics for the evaluation of the different products. These rubrics will help, on the one hand, the students to understand what is being asked of them and, on the other hand, the teacher to be able to evaluate the students in a more objective way and with the most formative feedback possible. There are also proposals for self-assessment by the students and co-assessment or evaluation of the work team.

All the OER of the EDIA Project promote a competency-based learning where the students have an active role in the classroom, with tasks of different difficulty that mobilize higher level skills and propose a formative and metacognitive evaluation, with instruments provided in the resource itself. They also promote the responsible use of accessible ICT tools that favor the development of the students' digital competence. These OER are in themselves learning situations that prepare our students for the educational challenges of the 21st century.

Academic Phrasebank

The Academic Phrasebank is a general resource for academic writers. It aims to provide you with examples of some of the phraseological ‘nuts and bolts’ of writing organised according to the main sections of a research paper or dissertation. The resource should be particularly useful for writers who need to report their research work.

The phrases in this resource have been taken from authentic academic sources. The original corpus from which the phrases were ‘harvested’ consisted of 100 postgraduate dissertations completed at the University of Manchester. The Academic Phrasebank largely draws on an approach to analysing academic texts originally pioneered by John Swales in the 1980s.
