An Infographic Guide to Technology-facilitated Gender-based Violence (TFGBV)

Technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) is an increasingly common issue affecting women and girls in many different ways. To help educators better understand this topic, a new infographic guide has been created. It uses simple, visual explanations to highlight what TFGBV looks like and why it matters in today’s digital world.

The guide includes 14 easy-to-read infographics that explore key ideas such as:

- the different forms TFGBV can take,

- how online and offline violence are connected,

- how TFGBV affects people differently depending on their identities and circumstances,

- what current data and research tell us,

- and how technology can be designed in safer, more ethical ways.

These infographics can be used in training sessions, classroom discussions, awareness campaigns, or any educational activity aimed at promoting safer digital environments. Each infographic comes with a short explanation that highlights its main points, making the material easy to understand and share.

This resource is ideal for teachers, school leaders, and anyone working with young people who wants to help build a more informed and respectful digital community.

Historical Tech Tree (thanks to @NaoCasanova)

Historical Tech Tree is an interactive, visual “tech tree” that traces the development of human technology from prehistory (3 million years ago) to the present. Created by Étienne Fortier‑Dubois, it maps nearly 1,839 distinct technologies and over 2,100 connections showing how each invention builds upon previous ones.

You can explore individual technologies, view their dates, and trace lines showing their prerequisites. Unlike simplified tech trees in video games, this tool attempts historical accuracy. While tech trees in games are artful and often deterministic, this one emphasizes the complex, branching, and sometimes non-linear nature of technological evolution.

The database continues to grow. It’s continually augmented with new technologies and validated through community and academic sources.

A valuable tool for teachers, researchers, and anyone interested in understanding the evolution of ideas and innovation pathways.

Invent, impact, inspire (Learning situations)

In these learning situations, from a service-learning approach, participants will think of ways to make a positive impact on the world while mastering English skills through engaging and interactive activities.

Participants will organize a technology fair at school to showcase useful inventions for the community. They will learn to collect information on local needs by participating in a public forum, write a patent application for their invention, and create a tutorial with instructions on how their invention works. The final task is to present the project at the technology fair, explaining the problem it addresses and its relevance to the community.

The study will include vocabulary about social issues, rules of netiquette, use of comparatives and superlatives, expressing logical relations using connectors of purpose and reason, phrases for giving instructions, and the pronunciation of the final -r.

The project includes three missions and a final challenge, involving individual, pair, and group work.

Participants are encouraged to do their best and enjoy the learning process.

Technology in Education: A Tool on Whose Terms?

Technology in Education: A Tool on Whose Terms? is a thought-provoking publication that examines the integration of technology in educational settings. This publication delves into the benefits and challenges associated with the use of technology in classrooms around the world.

UNESCO critically analyzes how technology can enhance learning experiences, promote inclusive education, and bridge educational gaps. However, it also highlights the potential drawbacks, such as dependency on technology, issues of accessibility, and the risk of widening the digital divide.

The publication encourages educators and policymakers to consider whose terms technology is being used on, advocating for a balanced and equitable approach to integrating digital tools in education. By doing so, it aims to ensure that technology serves as a beneficial resource for all students, regardless of their background.
