Turn the music up

“Turn the music up” is a resource designed for 1st year secondary students (ESO). It proposes a final challenge: to record a collaborative music video that can later be shared on their own social networks or the school’s. Recording short music clips is nothing new for our students, who are used to using social media and sharing this kind of content.

Through this challenge, they are encouraged to create and use content responsibly, while also exploring other possibilities such as taking part in talent contests.

As part of the project, students will discover music from around the world, learn fun facts about different countries through their songs, and dive deeper into instruments and musical genres in English. They will also practice creating simple song lyrics to express their own tastes and preferences.

Money can buy anything

This Open Educational Resource (OER) uses English to help students prepare for two of today’s big challenges highlighted in the LOMLOE: digital skills and sustainability. Together, we’ll explore the first four Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from the 2030 Agenda through active, hands-on tasks. At the end, you’ll work on a final project: creating a hopeful video about the recovery and/or rebuilding of a country.

This OER is part of a set of five learning activities based on the 2030 Agenda. You can use them all together or one by one. Taken as a whole, they cover the Year 9 (3º ESO) English curriculum.

Ambiente Virtual de Idiomas #UNAM #English

This resource is part of the Ambiente Virtual de Idiomas (AVI) created by UNAM, a major university in Mexico. It is a free online platform that helps anyone practice and improve their English skills, even if they are not students at UNAM.

The “Practice” section includes lots of lessons and interactive activities organized by levels (from beginner A1 to upper-intermediate B2), based on international language standards. You can practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking with guided exercises.

Each unit includes clear explanations, audio clips, quizzes, and sometimes even speaking exercises where you can record yourself. You don’t need to create an account or log in — you can just visit the site and start learning. It’s great for people who want to study English at their own pace, whether they’re just starting or want to improve their grammar, vocabulary, or pronunciation. The design is simple, so it’s easy to use, even for beginners.

Proyecto EDIA. REA «School reforms»

School reforms is an open educational resource that is part of a project comprising a set of six learning scenarios called Teens Crafting Communities, designed for 10th-grade (4th ESO) students.

This project follows the service-learning methodology with the goal of fostering social commitment and active participation to develop a shared project.

This resource can be used independently or as part of the full set, thereby covering the entire English curriculum for 10th grade (4th ESO). The primary purpose of this learning scenario is for students to identify their school's needs for change by conducting a survey and subsequently submitting a request to the administration.

To achieve this, students will undertake three missions culminating in a final challenge: drafting a formal proposal for change addressed to the school administration, based on the survey results they will organize. Through these challenges, students will not only learn how to create a survey but will also develop a sense of purpose and social responsibility, focusing on diverse aspects such as SDG 4 on quality education.

Learning Situations for English in 5th Grade Primary (Science-CLIL)

The "Science (CLIL)" series of the EDIA Project offers open educational resources that constitute Learning Situations for the "Science" area for 5th Grade Primary Education. All resources have a series of common points in terms of methodology:

Project Based Learning: All the resources presented are projects in which the contents are acquired through research and creation. They end with a final product.

Learning Diary - Metacognition: Each resource includes, as a proposal, the creation of a learning diary with a series of questions that invite students to reflect as they progress through each project. Different resources for the metacognitive development of the students are also included, such as thinking routines and the metacognition ladder.

Development of the students' digital competence: The products that are proposed in the different projects can be carried out with different digital tools that will help the students to develop their digital competence progressively and adapted to their age.

Shared and formative assessment: Each resource is accompanied by multiple rubrics for the evaluation of the different products. These rubrics will help, on the one hand, the students to understand what is being asked of them and, on the other hand, the teacher to be able to evaluate the students in a more objective way and with the most formative feedback possible. There are also proposals for self-assessment by the students and co-assessment or evaluation of the work team.

All the OER of the EDIA Project promote a competency-based learning where the students have an active role in the classroom, with tasks of different difficulty that mobilize higher level skills and propose a formative and metacognitive evaluation, with instruments provided in the resource itself. They also promote the responsible use of accessible ICT tools that favor the development of the students' digital competence. These OER are in themselves learning situations that prepare our students for the educational challenges of the 21st century.

#EDIA Learning Situations for English in 3rd Year of ESO. Project "Agenda 2030"

The "Agenda 2030 (English)" series of the EDIA Project offers open educational resources that constitute Learning Situations for 3rd year of ESO with a methodological proposal of Project Based Learning and Cooperative Learning.

This series has a total of five didactic sequences, with varied learning situations that address the curriculum through tasks aimed at obtaining a final product such as a video promoting the SDGs or one to recover a country after a disaster, a digital site where news and reports on the SDGs are collected, the organization of a fashion show where to sing and dance, or build a comic book talking about their ideal (and sustainable) city.

Our country Expo #EDIA #English #OER

This project is part of a set of projects entitled 'What a Digital World!' which is based on the curriculum for the 2nd year of compulsory secondary education.

The final challenge of this project is the planning and organization of an Expo to promote tourism in your country.

The following objectives have been considered in the design of this project.

- to learn while working on a project.

- to encourage collaborative work, since most assignments require information sharing and interaction with other students.

- to foster students' self-learning process by using IT resources.

- to reinforce students' communicative skills through activities of listening and reading comprehension, but above all, through tasks in which they must produce their own oral and written messages.

#OER #REA Good Karma

This OER for 3rd and 4th ESO has two objectives: to make students aware of the factors that influence interaction and to consider how the good use of these factors affects the quality of interpersonal relationships. To this end, the following topics are addressed: question structure, short sentences, non-verbal communication and communication styles.

Students will produce a report on their interpersonal profile including feedback from their peers. This is achieved by participating in a Speed Dating activity with people in the class. This OER prepares students to successfully participate in this activity.

OER The city of my dreams

This open educational resource is part of the proposal of the Junta de Andalucía to develop OER to support the attention to diversity in the core subjects of non-university education, among others, in the subject of first foreign language: English.

This project corresponds specifically to the primary school stage. However, you can find more resources corresponding to secondary or baccalaureate.

https://www.juntadeandalucia.es/educacion/portals/web/transformacion-digital-educativa/rea

At the end of this OER (REA), the students will create, in pairs or groups of three, a 3D city model using recycled materials. Then, they will use job avatars, to ask and give directions, so that their avatar reaches its workplace.

What are they going to learn?

Be able to recognize and label the main buildings in our 3D city model.

Be able to find information on the internet about towns and cities.

Be able to identify main places in a city, such as public buildings and other facilities.

Be able to identify the professions that are carried out in the main buildings of a city.

Be able to give and ask for information to reach places in a city.

Designing an advert

The OER Designing an advert is an English project for 1st ESO in which students will have to design a multimedia advertising campaign for a product they have imagined themselves.

This content combines an essential dimension of project-based learning: the dissemination by students of everything they have learnt and the activities they have carried out.

This educational resource allows students to acquire the English skills covered in the curriculum and to develop other skills such as digital competence. It also allows an interdisciplinary approach and can be adapted to the learning of any foreign language.
