Produced by the Office of English Language Programs (Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs) and the Office of Written Content (Bureau of International Information Programs), Everyday Conversations is intended for sixth- and seventh-grade students of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) or English as a Second Language (ESL).

This resource can be used by teachers and learners. Students can listen to and/or read dialogues in American English. Topics of the conversations include introductions and small talk, shopping, asking for directions, hobbies, and giving advice.

Conversation Questions for the ESL/EFL Classroom

A large group of questions which you can use in your ESL conversation classes. You can save the page "as text", edit it to be more appropriate for your own students and add any additional questions you can think of.

Some ways to use them in the classroom:
- Print out the questions and let students work in pairs asking the questions alternately.
- Divide the questions into two pages, give half the questions to one student and half to another and let them work in pairs.
- In a small class, the teacher may want to use the questions to get a conversation going about a given topic.
