We are Storytellers

Internet nos da prueba todos los días de fantásticas iniciativas que tienen lugar en nuestras escuelas relacionadas con las más diversas materias. Son proyectos diseñados para aprender, donde el uso de herramientas TIC es un medio para la realización materiales útiles a la par que visualmente atractivos. Así mismo, nos permite al alumnado y el profesorado de centros ajenos a los que han emprendido estas auténticas aventuras, conocer prácticas que, salvando las distancias, admiten una adaptación a nuestras propias circunstancias y necesidades.

Un ejemplo de ellas, dirigidas a la lengua inglesa, la hemos encontrado en el Proyecto We are Storytellers, desarrollado en el tercer ciclo de la sección bilingüe de Educación Primaria desde el Colegio San Gregorio-La Compasión de Aguilar de Campoo.

English Speaking Cities


Nuestro compañero del CEFIRE de Xàtiva Leo Boix nos presenta en esta noticia en la página del CEDEC el primer REA del proyecto English Speaking Cities, orientado a ofrecer recursos educativos abiertos para trabajar a través de la metodología del aprendizaje por proyectos todos los objetivos, criterios y estándares de 3º de ESO.

La primera secuencia didáctica se dedica a Londres. A partir de ella, se irán recorriendo otras ciudades que tienen el inglés como lengua oficial.

ESL Partyland

ESL Partyland, founded by Karin M. Citron, a US-based English teacher in 1999, provides students and teachers with content and tools necessary to learn online, and materials and teaching ideas for every type of classroom and learner.

It offers resources to teach ESL through music, film, video and the Internet. You can also find materials and lesson plans to use when teaching or learning conversation, grammar, listening and speaking skills.

MakeBeliefsComix.com

This site was launched in 2006 by Bill Zimmerman as a multilingual comic strip creation service. MakeBeliefsComix.com empowers students to express themselves and communicate through art and writing. You can select characters, emotions, objects, backgrounds, panel prompts and balloons... It includes more than 350 printable templates divided into thematic categories. 

There are many ways to use MakeBeliefsComix.com in the classroom: create autobiographical comix, practice new vocabulary words in a creative way, promote team collaboration, practice conversation skills in a meaningul context, introduce students to creative writing... Teachers can also share their own lesson plans for using this educational resource to teach literacy and reading.

Move On! Global Connections. Curso de verano

Os recordamos que sigue abierta la convocatoria de esta formación, en especial, diseñada para la docencia AICLE-CLIL y dirigida al profesorado de primaria e infantil que enseña inglés o en inglés.

Se llevará a cabo en inglés de forma semipresencial. En la sede de la UIMP de Cuenca del día 6 al día 10 de julio (30 horas) y en una fase en línea (20 horas) durante los meses de septiembre, octubre y noviembre.

El curso está dirigido por Leslie Davison y aborda numerosos contenidos que dinamizarán las prácticas en el aula a través de diversas estrategias, herramientas y metodologías.

UN Human Rights Education

Videos, games, cartoons, podcasts, and a number of interesting tools on Human Rights Education are available to you to discover on this website. It includes among other sections:

Explore and Act for Human Rights (in English)

Education plays an essential role in the promotion of democracy and human rights as well as in the prevention of human rights violations. 

This project initially intended to enable European secondary school students to become familiar with the key principles of European law relating to human rights. It also aimed to develop the teachers’ role and responsibilities as key actors in ensuring an effective implementation of the principles of the European human rights system.

The project includes: 

Guides for teachers relating to education for human rights and a selection of teaching resources prepared by the Council of Europe.

Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights (EDC/HRE) "Living democracy" (downloadable) manuals for teachers.

TitanPad. Free tool for collaborative writing

TitanPad is a free and simple to use Web 2.0 tool that lets a group of people (up to 8 authors) come together to easily create and edit documents. It does not require a user account.

You can import other text documents into your pad and they can be downloaded as PDF, DOC, HTML or text.

TitanPad has many possibilities for classroom use. For example, it allows teachers to create their own working space. Students can access the document at the same time or individually at any time. In this case, each person, who is color-coded, can see the changes that others are making.

Map Maker Interactive

Amazing resource created and maintained by National Geographic Education & Children's Media. By using Map Maker Interactive you can create and share your maps. Tools to overlay different themes (water, land, climate, population, political system...) and to draw and place a variety of different markers are provided.

You can save them as an XML or PNG file, share with others via link and modify and use the maps in any way, subject to the following conditions:

- You charge no fee for anyone to view or use any item that includes or is based on this map image or screen shot.
- You include the following credit or attribution in the same visual field as any use: "Map from National Geographic's MapMaker Interactive; data from [insert data sources here]". Data sources include the attribution from the base map, included on the lower right corner of the map, and for any map layers visible on the map. To see the data source of any map layer activated on your map, click the information icon in the legend. Some map layers have additional restrictions and cannot be used in screenshots, and this will be noted in the information text accessed from the legend.

Analyze My Writing

Analyze My Writing is an online text content and readability analyzer. Copy and paste a text into the homepage and it will generate information about your writing:

- word, sentence, and character count
- word and sentence lengths
- readability scores based on several measures
- customizable graphs for Fry and Raygor readability measures
- punctuation marks
- most frequently used words (with word cloud)
-most common word pairs.

This is a very easy to use tool as there is no registration and analysis of your text is completely free. You may analyze as many texts as you like, and the texts you analyze can be as long as your browser and system can handle.

Community Values Primary Competition (Go Digital with Oxford)

Oxford University Press is giving you the opportunity to win an iPad Air; 16 GB for you and each of your students.

You will need to create a video (no more than 2 minutes long). It should explain what the class has done, what they have learnt and how they have helped their community. The whole video must be entirely in English.

All the videos will be uploaded to a special page on Monday 18th May where anyone can vote for their favourite video. The voting closes on Sunday 24th May. Crash Course

Crash Course is an educational YouTube channel started by Hank and John Green, two brothers who provide some excellent video explanations and tutorials on a variety of topics related to World and US History, Biology, Literature, Ecology and Chemistry. 

Crash Course launched a preview on December 2, 2011. As of January 25, 2015, the channel has earned over 2.6 million subscribers and over 200 million video views.

World Library of Science

The World Library of Science (WLoS) is a free online resource developed as a partnership between UNESCO and Macmillan Science and Education. It offers quality Nature Education content in short eBooks and articles, serving a mission to equalize access to high quality resources for science education for all communities across the globe. All offerings are digital. 

WLoS is for teachers, students and any curious person. As the content is all free, anyone can access the library or create a classroom or discussion space. Teaching faculty (or anyone) can create online reading lists to share with their students, and students (or anyone) can browse the Library resources or search for others in the WLoS social network who share their interests. 

Registration is free but requires an email address. 

Future plans involve expansoion of life and physical science subjects, as well as a translation of resources into multiple languages.
