Oferta de formación del CEFIRE para el próximo trimestre (inglés)

Recientemente se ha publicado la oferta formativa del CEFIRE de Elda para el próximo trimestre. Se ha difundido tanto a través de la página web http://mestreacasa.gva.es/web/cefireelda/inscripcio como por medio del envío a los centros de carteles para su exposición en áreas comunes.

Con esta entrada os invitamos a conocer las dos actividades directamente relacionadas con la lengua inglesa.

La primera de ellas es la reedición del curso presencial Recursos para trabajar el inglés en edades tempranas (16EL76EI001), que Juan Rubio, llevará a cabo entre el 20 de enero y el 23 de marzo. Sabemos que cada vez resulta más complicado acudir a cursos presenciales pero la experiencia y el buen hacer de Juan compensa sobradamente el esfuerzo. El curso se desarrolla en Elda pero nos gustaría invitar a profesorado de infantil y primeros cursos de primaria de toda la zona a esta interesantísima formación.

En segundo lugar, un curso online: Project Based Learning for English High School Teachers (16EL76IS003). Cambiamos de etapa educativa y de modalidad formativa, sin embargo esta propuesta representa otra oportunidad en la medida en que auna dos elementos de gran actualidad como la aplicación del aprendizaje basado en proyectos y la enseñanza del inglés. Juan Tomás García Asensi y M. Elena Ruiz Aranda tutorizan este curso que se desarrollará entre el 25 de enero y el 4 de marzo.

Nos encantaría que os pudierais beneficiar de esta oferta y que contribuyera tanto a la mejora de vuestra competencia docente como a la calidad de aprendizaje de vuestro alumnado.

Climate change and education

The 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference was held in Paris from 30 November to 12 December. The conference reached its objective, to for the first time achieve a global agreement on reduction of climate change in the Paris Agreement, which was adopted with acclamation by nearly all states. This agreement was the culmination of decades of international attempts under the UN to forge collective action on this problem.

Education is an essential element of the global response to climate change. In fact, education for sustainable development, both formal and non-formal, was afforded an entire thematic day as part of the conference on December 4.

Human Rights Day

Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December. It commemorates the day on which, in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Study Zone (ELC-University of Victoria)

Interesting web with lessons and practice exercices for students of the English Language Centre (ELC) at the University of Victoria. 

The site is designed for their adult English language learners, but all are welcome to read the lessons and use the exercises.

Science Snacks

The Exploratorium, a museum of science, art, and human perception located in San Francisco, California, makes available for public use Science Snacks, hand-on science activities that can be built at home or in the classroom using cheap and easy to procure materials.  

These activities provide step-by-step directions, photos, video, lists of materials, assembly instructions, etc. They also indicate if adult help is needed and in many cases offer additional information about the explorations.

World AIDS Day 2015

World AIDS Day is held on the 1^st December each year since 1988. This is one of the eight official global campaigns marked by the World Health Organization and an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and mourn those who have died of the disease.

Education plays a crucial role to raise awareness of the AIDS pandemic. You can find here a list of resources on AIDS that can be useful for the ESL/ EFL classroom.

Smarty Pins

Smarty Pins is a browser-based game developed by Google that test your knowledge on geography across a number of categories: arts & culture, science, sports & games, entertainment and history & current events. You have to answer by placing a pin on a map.

You start each game with a bank of 1,000 miles/ 1,609 kilometres. You can lose miles/ kilometres for answering incorrectly and or taking too long to answer. The game subtracts the number of miles/ kilometres you're off by for each answer.. Fast, correct answers earn extra miles/ kilometres to keep the player’s journey going longer. When your bank hits zero, it is game over.

K-12 moderated video sharing platform, specifically designed for students and teachers. It was created by Andrew and Carl Arizpe and initially sponsored by The National Geographic Society.

In the United States the website is used by more than 60,000 schools and is endorsed by the most influential education associations.

Video topics include environment, science and technology, food, journalism, etc. Students and teachers are allowed to find all videos shared from their schools by using a search engine. Videos portraying violence, vulgarities, sexual situations, and copyrighted materials are prohibited from publication. To that end, students cannot upload a video until a teacher says it appropriate to publish.

When teaching a new word it is important to provide some of its most common collocations. There are many online tools which fulfill this purpose effectively. We will mention one of them.

Ozdic.com is an amazing and very useful dictionary that helps English learners write and speak more natural-sounding. It contains over 150,000 collocations for nearly 9,000 headwords. Examples of how the collocations are used in context are provided.

Ozdic.com is based on the 100 million word British National Corpus.
