Clilstore

Clilstore is a store of copyleft content and language integrated teaching materials.

It is being developed by Caoimhín Ó Donnaíle at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig as part of the European funded TOOLS project (2012-2014), led by Kent Andersen in Denmark and with other Partners from Denmark, Ireland, Lithuania, Portugal, Spain and EuroCALL.

Clilstore uses Wordlink, a World Wide Web based facility which links arbitrary webpages automatically, word by word with online dictionaries. 

Language teachers can register (for free and without formality) and create units for use with their students. Many units consist of an embedded video (e.g. from Youtube) or soundfile together with a transcript.

World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day is celebrated on December 1 each year around the world. .This day is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection.. Since 1995, the President of the United States has made an official proclamation on World AIDS Day. Governments of other nations have followed suit and issued similar announcements.

November 25. Fighting violence against women

Women's activists have marked November 25 as a day to fight violence against women since 1981. On December 17, 1999, the United Nations General Assembly designated 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. This date came from the brutal assassination in 1960 of the three Mirabal sisters, political activists in the Dominican Republic, on orders of Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo. To commemorate this day, we would like to share the following video, produced by UNTV for UN Women. 

In South Africa, a country often referred to as the murder and rape capital of the world, one group of women are especially at risk. Lesbians are increasingly the targets of a particularly heinous crime: "curative" or "corrective" rape, which perpetrators believe will change their sexual orientation.

EU website on children's rights for for children and young people aged from 6 to 16. They can play games (divided into age groups), watch cartoons and videos and learn about their rights. 

It can be a very good CLIL resource for them. They will learn about their rights and the world around them in a funny way and, of course, in English. Games range from simple quizzes to puzzles and action game.

Inicio de los cursos de competencia comunicativa en inglés para le profesorado

El Servicio de Formación del Profesorado ha publicado en su página de plurilingüísmo  un resumen con las principales condiciones de participación en esta convocatoria.

Durante esta semana se procederá al alta de usuarios y usuarias en la plataforma de My Oxford English. A medida que se vayan produciendo bajas en distintas modalidades, se contactará con las personas en lista de espera. Estas personas no han de presentarse en los aularios hasta que no se les comunique que pueden hacerlo. 

La primera sesión presencial se celebrará en la semana del 12 al 16 de noviembre. Se puede incorporar el número de teléfono a la solicitud original, con el fin de facilitar la comunicación. Se puede acceder a ella a través de esta dirección.

Celebrating Halloween

Voscreen

Voscreen is a tool for developing the understandig of different languages through short video clips. After choosing your mother tongue, you are shown a series of very short video clips where a phrase is said. Then you choose “I understand” or “Show me the script”. In this last case, you are shown two possible meanings of the phrase and you will have to choose the correct one.

My Trip to London

La pasada semana nos visitó Daniel Martínez Cremades, profesor de inglés de primaria que acaba de publicar su libro My trip to London. 

Se trata de una lectura graduada en inglés concebida para el último ciclo de primaria o el primero de secundaria. A través del juego y de conducir al alumnado por los distintos capítulos a partir de sus decisiones sobre el contenido de la lectura, se ofrece una buena oportunidad de practicar aquella lengua y de asimilar numerosos conocimientos de tipo cultural sobre Londres o acerca de los viajes y otras prácticas cotidianas. El libro está elaborado íntegramente en presente simple y continuo, con el uso de algunos modales (have to, must, can y need) y con un vocabulario adecuado a estudiantes que se inician en la lectura en inglés. Se incluyen además un glosario de términos y gráficos.

Es una obra editada por ECU. Su precio es 7,5 €. Si se pide desde los centros directamente a la editorial, tiene un descuento de entre el 10 y el 15% y en su versión digital cuesta 3,8 €.

Confirmación de cursos de formación lingüística en inglés

En la página del Servicio de formación podéis ver ya las instrucciones para el proceso de confirmación de los cursos de formación lingüística en inglés para el profesorado no universitario. El plazo de solicitudes terminó el pasado día 4 y el de confirmación comienza la próxima semana. También en esta página se os informa de las prioridades que se tienen en cuenta en la convocatoria.

Fichas imprimibles para ESL

A través de una entrada en el blog de Pilar Torres, hemos tenido noticia de un recurso de entre los diversos que proporcionan fichas imprimibles para utilizar en la clase de inglés. 

Se trata de ISLCOLLECTIVE, una comunidad de profesores y profesoras de inglés como segunda lengua que comparten materiales desarrollados en sus prácticas de forma gratuita, esto es, la comunidad se nutre del trabajo subido por todas las personas que participan en ella y están llamadas a compartirlo por sencillo que pueda parecer. Además, esta red de profesorado, permite el contacto entre docentes de distintas partes del mundo a través de foros. 

Nos resultan especialmente interesantes las opciones de búsqueda de fichas: competencia, nivel, tipo de material, alumnado al que va destinado, ámbito gramatical y de vocabulario, etc. Podéis visitarlo en: http://en.islcollective.com/
