Managing the Lesson

This booklet helps teachers identify areas for development and provide ways to improve their knowledge and develop the skills they need in and out of the classroom. Teacher educators can use the materials with developing teachers to help assess and address their learning needs.

Teachers can explore lesson management skills, including:
  • how to use the classroom space and classroom equipment
  • putting learners into different groups
  • giving clear instructions and checking that learners have understood

The booklet also includes how to manage learner behaviour and how to respond to what’s happening in the classroom by making small changes to the lesson plan. Finally, teachers are encouraged to think about decisions after the lesson and use that experience to improve ideas and techniques for future lessons.
